The sales numbers are in and Blu-Ray and HD DVD are in a virtual tie for market supremacy, according to an article on Next Generation.
So far, consumers have purchased approximately 439,000 Blu-Ray DVDs and a little less than 438,000 HD DVD discs.
After following this battle for a few months, I can't figure out which format will ultimately win, which is one of the reasons why I picked up a PS3 last weekend.
I haven't bought a game or movie for the system yet because I haven't seen anything that was too worthwhile for the price. Who's going to pay $33 for Broken Arrow? In a year or two that movie will be in the Wal-Mart two-for-$11 bin.
I think I'll pick up Goodfellas this weekend to see how the PS3's DVD playback looks compared to the Xbox HD-DVD. And, I think my first game will actually be a PS2 game -- MVP 2007. It's getting some great feedback on the Gamespot bulletin board, and for $30, you can't go wrong.
I should have reviews for these two up by next weekend. In the meantime, if you have a Blu-Ray and HD-DVD player, let me know which format you prefer.
