One thing I find amusing in general blogging instructions is the admonition to “keep it short.” There is a belief that anything more than three or four paragraphs is too long.
That may have been true at one time. But blogging has evolved, and as higher-level thinkers have gotten involved I’m finding that’s no longer true.
But hey, don’t take my word for it. Here’s a link to the Groundswell blog. I think we’d all agree if anyone should have the mechanics of blogging down pat, it’s them. So take a look at their posts, and count how many of them run three to four paragraphs. Not many. Most are longer.
The length of a post should be as long as it takes to say something interesting. For some, three paragraphs may be pushing it. For others, it’s not enough. It all depends on the subject matter and your ability to convey it. Of course, in this case four paragraphs WAS enough!
